Killaloe OPP Weekly Release

During the week of the 8 August 2016, to the 14 August 2016, there were 108 calls for service, including the Whitney Detachment.

There were nine motor vehicle collisions, two were animal related.

There were three domestic dispute calls for service during the week of the 8 August 2016, to the 14 August 2016. There was one domestic related incident involving criminal code charges.

Collisions

On the 08 August 2016 at approximately 12:52 p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Mike Recoskie received a call of a single vehicle collision on Simpson Pit Road and Highway #60, Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Twp. The driver of a transport truck had swerved to avoid a deer and skidded off of the roadway. The southbound lane on Simpson Pit Road was partially blocked for a short time. The driver of the transport truck was taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

On the 08 August 2016 at approximately 6:53p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Ryan Lapierre received a call of a single vehicle collision; fail to remain on Fourth Chute Road, North Algona Wilberforce Twp. A small grey car was seen striking the guard rails causing damages and leaving the scene. The suspect vehicle will have extensive damages to the passenger side front end. This incident remains under investigation.

On the 10 August 2016 at approximately 4:36 p.m., Whitney OPP Constable Keith Jones received a call of a single vehicle collision on Highway # 60, Algonquin Provincial Park. The driver had struck a bear. There were no reported injuries.

Break and Enter

On the 14 August 2016 at approximately 6:17 p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Jeff Turnbull received a break and enter call on Sand Road in Bonnehere Valley Twp. A shed was broken into, and a welder and various tools were stolen. This incident remains under investigation.

Bail Violation Arrest

On the 10 August 2016 at approximately 12:36 p.m., members of the Killaloe OPP attended Pog Lake Road, in Algonquin Provincial Park regarding a domestic incident. Subsequent to police investigation, a 38 yr. old male from Thorold was charged with Breach of Recognizance, X 4 section 145(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was held for a bail hearing, Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke. The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

Fraud

Between the 9 August and the 13 August 2016 the Killaloe OPP has investigated three calls for service stemming from fraudulent scams. In one of the incidents, a call was received from the Ottawa Citizen requesting funds. In a second incident, a call was received from the Canada Revenue Agency requesting I – tunes cards. In a third call, the caller indicated they were canvassing for the Special Olympics. The OPP reminds the pubic to never give out personal information, and to be vigilant in recognizing potential scams. Police are urging members of the public to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Agency at 1-888-495-8501 to report suspected frauds or to contact the Killaloe OPP.

Traffic Complaints Lead to Charges

On the 10 August 2016 at approximately 11:32 a.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Devin Leeworthy received a traffic complaint call for service, on Highway # 60, North Algona Wilberforce Twp. Police had received information from a concerned citizen that a blue Honda was driving erratically. Subsequent to police investigation, 34 yr. old Tivadar BASA from Ottawa was charged with Careless Driving section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act. The driver was issued a provincial offence act notice.

On the 09 August 2016 at approximately 5: 45 p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Brandon Cassibo received a traffic complaint call for service on Highway # 60 in Madawaska Valley Twp. Police had received information from a concerned citizen that a black Cavalier was driving carelessly. Subsequent to police investigation, 18 yr. old Martin RECOSKIE of Killaloe Hagarty and Richards Twp. was charged with Following Too Closely section 158(1) of the Highway Traffic Act. The driver was issued a provincial offence act notice.
