Killaloe OPP Weekly Release

During the week of the 19 December 2016, to the 1January 2017, there were 155 calls for service, including the Whitney Detachment.

There were thirty-one motor vehicle collisions, eleven were animal related.

There were two domestic dispute calls for service during the weeks of the 19 December 2016, to the 1January 2017. There was one domestic related incident involving criminal code charges.

Assault, Mischief, Assault Police Charges Laid

On the 31 December 2016 at approximately 12:42 a.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Jeff Turnbull and Constable Andrew Wierzbicki received a domestic dispute call for service on Shingwak Inamo, Pikwakanagan Ontario First Nation. Subsequent to officer investigation , a 22 yr. old female from Arnprior has been charged with Domestic Assault, section 266, Domestic Mischief section 430(4), and Assault Peace Officer, section 270(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was held pending bail court, Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke. The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

Break and Enter

On the 21 December 2016 at approximately 8:28 a.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Jeff Turnbull and Constable Andrew Wierzbicki received a break and enter call for service on Kokomis Inamo, Pikwakanagan Ontario First Nation. A store at this location had been forcibly entered. Items stolen were cigarettes, and various store items. This incident remains under investigation.

Threats

On the 30 December 2016 at approximately 12:30 p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Jeff Turnbull received a threats call for service on Boland Street, Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Twp. Subsequent to police investigation, 24 yr. old Ryan GAUDIN of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Twp. has been charged with Uttering Threats, section 264.1(1) (a) and Fail to Comply with Probation Order, section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear with Conditions, Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe.

Collisions

On the 19 December 2016 at approximately 2:43 p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Ryan Szczygiel received a motor vehicle collision call for service involving a school bus and a motor vehicle on Bonnechere St East, Bonnechere Valley Twp. A 24 yr. old male from Madawaska Valley Twp. has been charged with Following Too Closely section 158)1) of the Highway Traffic Act. There were no reported injuries. No tow was required.

On the 22 December 2016 at approximately 12:50 p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Devin Leeworthy received a single vehicle collision call for service on Paradise Road, South Algonquin Twp. An unoccupied vehicle had rolled down a hill, striking a house and another parked vehicle. There were no reported injuries. Damage to the residence and vehicle were reported as minor. There were no charges laid.

On the 22 December 2016 at approximately 1: 12 p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Jordan Bullis received a single vehicle collision call for service on Ruby Road, Bonnechere Valley Twp. A Black Chevrolet pick-up had slid into the ditch. As a result of police investigation, a 57 yr. old male from Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Twp., was issued a three day alcohol licence suspension. There were no reported injuries.

On the 22 December 2016 at approximately 4:27 p.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Jordan Bullis received a single vehicle collision call for service on Mill Street, Bonnechere Valley Twp. A Black SUV had lost control and slid over a cliff, and became partially lodged in shallow water. Renfrew County Ambulance attended the scene as a precaution. The driver of the vehicle, an 18 yr. old female was uninjured. The vehicle was towed. There were no charges laid.

Impaired Charges

On the 27 December 2016 at approximately 12:10 a.m., Killaloe OPP Constable Chris Teasdale was conducting moving radar on John Street, Madawaska Valley Twp. and observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted, and as a result of police investigation, 24 yr. old Steve VON DESCHWANDEN from Ottawa, has been charged with Impaired Operation , section 253(1)(a) and Over 80 section 253(1) (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear, Ontario Court of Justice, Killaloe. The vehicle was towed and the licence suspended.

Stunt Driving Charges

On the 21 December 2016 at approximately 1:38 p.m., Whitney OPP Constable Brent Darraugh was operating moving radar on Highway # 60, North Algona Wilberforce Twp. A Grey Ford was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. Subsequent to police investigation, 41 yr. old Benoit PIMPARE of Quebec was charged with Stunt Driving, section 172 and Careless Driving section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act. The licence was seized for seven days, and the vehicle was towed.

Festive RIDE Program Results

Since the commencement of the OPP Festive RIDE Campaign, the Killaloe OPP have conducted 79 RIDE spot checks throughout the detachment area, have issued two three day licence suspensions and have laid two impaired driving charges. The OPP are continuing to urge motorists to drive with caution and choose not to drive while impaired by drug or alcohol. Festive RIDE will conclude on the 7 January 2017.
