KIDS N KOPS

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – Once again the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has teamed up with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kawartha Lakes-Haliburton (BBBSKLH) to provide local youths with a unique experience.

The youths, aged 6-10, spend the day with OPP officers, learning valuable skills pertaining to water and boat safety, making good choices and about policing as a career.

The group has had the opportunity to delve into the world of policing. They have observed how forensics, such as fingerprints, can help solve a crime; they have patrolled the waterways to ensure that boaters are in compliance with the regulations; and they have learned about some of the police equipment used to help keep our community safe.

“The program is aimed at providing the youths with some positive interaction with the police. They are learning about how to keep our community safe but just as importantly, they are developing positive relationships with police officers – trusted adults that they can rely on to help keep them safe”, states Paul Gill, case manager BBBSKLH.
