KHAN – Hit and Run, Refuse To Blow

(CALEDON, ON) – On Wednesday, March 29, 2016 at approximately 11:29 pm, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a motor vehicle on King Street between Heritage Road and Mississauga Road.

Upon arrival Police located a Dodge Challenger with extensive damage. Police were unable to locate the occupants of the vehicle who had left the scene prior to police arrival.

After receiving information from the public, Police subsequently located the uninjured driver and passenger of the vehicle at a residence nearby. Following an investigation, it was determined that the driver had consumed alcohol prior to the collision and a breath sample demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD) was made. The male driver failed to provide a suitable sample of his breath into the ASD in order to determine the concentration, if any, alcohol in his blood.

As a result of the investigation, Zeeshan Tariq KHAN, 22, from Oakville was charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada: Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident, and Fail/Refuse to Provide Breath Sample.

The 90-day Administrative Drivers’ Licence Suspension (ADLS) program was initiated and his motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

The accused was released and he is scheduled to make a first appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 28, 2016.
