Kenora OPP Press Release

(KENORA, ON) Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating an incident over the weekend.

On Saturday, April 15, 2017 shortly before 1:00 am, OPP were called to a downtown establishment to a report of an assault with a weapon. Police learned the victim had become involved in an altercation with another male in a back lane. During the altercation, the suspect assaulted the victim with a weapon and fled the scene. The male was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

The suspect is described as an Indigenous male, wearing a black hat and black hoodie. The investigation is continuing.

MISCHIEF SUSPECT ARRESTED

(KENORA, ON) Police have charged 33 year old Emo man following a report of a mischief to property.

On Monday, April 17, 2017 just after 7:30 pm, the Kenora OPP was advised that two men had just broken the automated cash box at a car wash located on Railway Street in the City of Kenora. The two suspects fled on foot. Police located the suspects within minutes and after a short foot chase, one of the males was arrested by police. An OPP Canine unit was called in to assist with locating the second suspect but the subject was not found.

As a result of this investigation, 33 year old Brian COCHRANE of Emo has been charged with Mischief Under $5,000.00 contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code (CC), Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000.00 sec. 354(1)(a) CC, and Theft Under $5,000.00 sec. 334(b) CC. He has been held for a bail hearing.

The investigation is continuing and the second male is described as an Indigenous male, with a shaved head and facial hair.

YOUTH CHARGED FOR MISCHIEF

(KENORA, ON) On Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at around 2:30 am, the Kenora OPP was called to the north end of Kenora to a report of a male leaving the scene of a mischief to a vehicle. Police attended and noted the window of a parked Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) had been smashed. Police were advised that a male suspect had left the scene on a bicycle.

Shortly after 3:00 am, police located and arrested the suspect near the area of the mischief.

As a result of this investigation, a 14 year old Kenora male has been charged with Fail to Comply with Undertaking (2 counts) contrary to section 145(3) CC and Mischief Under $5,000.00 sec 430(4) CC. He has been held in custody for a bail hearing on April 19, 2017.
