Stolen from the side of a garage on Ashby Road in Augusta Township sometime between 8:00 am May 9 and 8:00 am May 10, 2015.

Impaired Driving

Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Township

On May 8, 2015 shortly after 7:00 pm police were dispatched to a minor MVC in the parking lot of the Mac’s Convenience Store in Cardinal On. While conducting an interview police detected an odour of alcohol on the breath of one of the drivers. Investigation led to the arrest of a 59 year old male from Cardinal On. He was transported to the Prescott Detachment for breath tests and was subsequently charged with Impaired Driving and Exceed 80. He is to appear in Brockville Court at a later date.

On May 7, 2015 at approx. 3:00 am police were dispatched to a possible impaired driver on Prescott Centre Drive in the Town of Prescott. Police stopped a Honda CRV, blue in colour with NY license plates. Following a short investigation the driver was placed under arrest and transported to the Prescott detachment for breath tests. A 44 year old male from Ogdensburg NY was charged with Impaired Driving and Exceed 80 and he is to appear in Brockville Court at a later date.

Prescott OPP has been receiving complaints in regards to fraudsters sending emails impersonating the Canada Revenue Agency.

Tax Scams

It is tax time again and fraudsters will use this opportunity to attempt to scam consumers and businesses out of their hard earned money.

The most common approach fraudsters’ use is impersonating the real Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Whether by telephone or by email, the pitch involves one of two variations. The fraudsters are phishing for identification or asking that outstanding taxes by paid by a money service business or by pre-paid debit / credit cards.

There is notification by phone or email from the CRA” claiming there is a refund pending. In order for the recipient to receive the refund they must provide personal information.

Consumers and businesses receive a notification by phone or email that they owe “back taxes” as the result of an audit. The payment must be made immediately to avoid a fine or the recipient is told there is an outstanding warrant that can be avoided if the payment is made promptly. In many cases
