(PARRY SOUND, ON) – The West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has responded to several complaints over the last several days regarding pushy door-to-door salesman in the Parry Sound area.
Police would like to remind residents that a person cannot enter your home without your consent. When a salesperson comes to your door selling an energy product – be it a fixed-rate energy contract or water heaters and furnaces, you need to be on your guard. Ask the salesman for a business card and verify the person’s credentials. If you are interested in the product, be sure to take the time to look over any proposal and read the fine print. You do not need to sign immediately. Do not share personal information unless you are sure you want to sign a contract. Finally, if you feel uncomfortable at any time, ask the salesman to leave. If the person will not leave when asked to, call Police at 1-888-310-1122 or 9-1-1.
The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) regulates the conduct of companies that offer retail energy contracts to residential and small business electricity and natural gas consumers in Ontario. For more information on licenced energy companies visit the OEB at www.ontarioenergyboard.ca. The OEB does not go door to door to sell products.
