Kayak Dragger Evades Police In Listowel

(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) – On Wednesday August 31, 2016, at approximately 5:15 a.m., an off duty Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a male on a bicycle dragging a kayak near the community garden along Nelson Ave South in Listowel.

The officer, being suspicious about the male’s activity immediately called 911. The male was observed dropping the kayak as well as his bicycle in the community gardens. As uniformed officers arrived the male made his way onto Kincaid Street where he was able to evade capture by cutting through residential backyard under the cover of darkness.

Checks revealed that the male had obtained the kayak by forcing open the outdoor fenced area of the Listowel Canadian Tire store. The recovered kayak was the only item missing from the fenced area.

The Perth County OPP is continuing its investigation into this incident. Anyone knowing the identity of the male is requested to contact the Perth County at 1-888-310-1122.
