Kawartha Lakes Easter Weekend Traffic Results

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) including officers at the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) detachment participated in a long weekend traffic initiative the ran from March 25, 2016 to March 28, 2016.

OPP officers were conducting enforcement activities aimed at seatbelt usage, speeding, distracted driving and driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Throughout the weekend 108 Provincial Offence Notices were issued by CKL OPP officers. The majority, 78 were for speeding, 2 for distracted driving and zero seatbelt tickets were issued. Additionally two drivers were arrested and charged with Impaired Driving or Over 80, the details as follows:

On Saturday March 26 at approximately 11:50 pm a vehicle was stopped at a R.I.D.E. check on Glenarm Road at Kirkfield Road. An investigation was started and the driver, David NIELSEN, 52 years of age of Fenelon Falls was arrested and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol and Over 80 mg both contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on May 5, 2016.

On Sunday March 27 at approximately 8:20 pm a vehicle was stopped just north of Fenelon Falls at the intersection of Kawartha Lakes Road 121 and Kawartha Lakes Road 8. The stop was a result of a driving complaint. An investigation was started and the driver, Sherri WALSH, 43 years of age, of Fenelon Falls was arrested and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol and Over 80 mg, both contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on April 21, 2016.

The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP would like to remind motorists that by using seatbelts, reducing your speed, eliminating distractions and choosing not to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs will all contribute to making Ontario roads safer.
