(NAIRN CENTRE, ON)- On August 16, 2016, members from the Espanola Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting radar enforcement on Highway 17, in the town of Nairn Centre.
At approximately 9:16 a.m., a westbound vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed and as a result was stopped for “Stunt Driving”.
The driver, Karen MOROCUTTI-PARCO, 49 years of age, from Vancouver, was charged with Race a Motor Vehicle, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle she was operating was impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on September 8, 2016.
Every person convicted of Race a Motor Vehicle is liable to a fine of not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both, in addition to his or her driver’s licence being suspended.
