(ESPANOLA, ON)- On May 31, 2016, at approximately 1:56 p.m., members from the Espanola Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17, in the township of Sables-Spanish Rivers.
Officers observed a westbound pickup truck drive by and observed a male driver clearly holding a cellphone in his right hand out over the centre console. As a result of the observations, a traffic stop was initiated.
As a result of the investigation, it was also found that the male driver was under suspension.
Joseph POLLARD, 50 years of age, from Webbwood, was charged with the following:
Driving while under suspension, contrary to 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
Drive motor vehicle on a highway while using hand-held wireless communication device, contrary to section 78.1(1) of the Highway Traffic Act
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, on June 30, 2016.
