Joseph KILPATRICK – Drunk Driving, Drive While Suspended etc.

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – A vehicle stop conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has resulted in a local male being charged with numerous offences.

On February 7, 2014 officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP observed a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Kawartha Lakes Road 36 near Beatty’s Road and subsequently stopped the vehicle.

During the investigation the officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. An open container of alcohol was located in the vehicle and a small quantity of marihuana was located on the accused upon his arrest. The vehicle that he was driving was towed from the scene and was impounded for 7 days.

Further investigation indicated that the accused was prohibited from driving and that he was also disqualified from driving.

As a result of the investigation Joseph KILPATRICK, 56 years of age, of Verulam Township, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

Operating a motor vehicle while impaired contrary to the Criminal Code
Operating a motor vehicle while having more than 80mgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood contrary to the Criminal Code
Possession of marihuana, under 30 grams, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Having an open container of liquor in the vehicle, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act
Two counts of driving while suspended, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Driving while disqualified, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused appeared in court, in Lindsay the following day for a bail hearing.
