(PEMBROKE, ON) – On September 6, 2015 members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to Highway 17 west of Deep River after a front end loader was found in the ditch. The loader had been reported stolen earlier in the day to the Deep River Police. While at the scene of the recovered front end loader, police received a report that a male stole a quantity of alcohol and a black 2006 Toyota Tacoma from a gas station in Stonecliffe.
A short time later the stolen Toyota was observed by police passing eastbound through Deep River on Highway 17. Police activated their emergency equipment in an effort to stop the vehicle. The driver failed to stop and police did not continue to follow the vehicle for public safety reasons. A short time later it was reported that the stolen vehicle was observed driving erratically on the property of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in Chalk River and had ended up crashing into trees in a residential area of Chalk River. The vehicle had been abandoned by the driver and the OPP Canine Unit and OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) were dispatched to assist with the investigation. The Canine Unit established a track and the suspect was arrested on Corry Lake Road in Chalk River. As a result 34 year old Jonathan Robert LAROCQUE of Temagami, Ontario was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
· Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
· Theft Over $5000 of a Motor Vehicle
· Flight From Police
· Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
· Theft Under $5000
· Fail to Comply with Probation Order
LAROCQUE was also charged with Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marihuana, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. LAROCQUE was held for a bail hearing.
