(SOUTH HURON, ON) A 62 year old driver from South Huron is facing charges of Impaired Driving and Drive Motor with Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol after he was stopped on January 17, 2015. At 7:23 p.m. the driver of a BMW sedan entered a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint located at the intersection of Mount Carmel Drive and Bronson Line.
Upon speaking with the male driver officers detected the driver had been drinking alcohol. Officers continued their investigation and spoke with the driver outside of his vehicle. Upon doing so they determined the driver was displaying several signs that he was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested for Impaired Driving and was transported to the Exeter Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment for breath tests. Upon arrival at the Exeter OPP Detachment he provided two suitable samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician; both samples registered over the legal limit.
As a result, 62 year old John SMITH from South Huron has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has a court appearance scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice – Exeter on January 29, 2015. He also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days.
