(PEMBROKE, ON) – The second week of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) 2015 Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign took place from November 30 to December 6. During this time officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP conducted 28 RIDE checks at various locations throughout the detachment area. Just over 1100 vehicles were checked with no impaired driving or over 80mg charges being laid as a result of the RIDE checks. Detachment Commander Mark Wolfe stated, “Drivers can expect to see RIDE programs at any time of the day or night. With 68 RIDE checks over the first two weeks of the campaign officers at the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP detachment continue show their commitment and dedication to public safety and OPP’s Festive RIDE program”.
Despite the compliance that was observed at the RIDE checks police did charge a Petawawa man with Driving with More than 80mg of Alcohol in his Blood. On the evening of December 4 police received a call regarding a possible impaired driver on Renfrew Street in Petawawa. Police located the vehicle and the driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result Jesse HEADLEY, age 23 of Petawawa, was charged with Driving with More than 80mg of Alcohol in his Blood. He was released on a Promise To Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on January 12, 2016.
The OPP’s 2015 Festive RIDE campaign began on November 23 and continues until January 2, 2016.
