VEHICLE FLEES FROM POLICE

(ROCKLAND, ON) On October 20, 2013 OPP Sergeant Villeneuve was on patrol on St-Laurent Street in Rockland. The officer noticed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road with lights on. The vehicle started to move when the officer got close. Eventually the vehicle was stopped. The driver was spoken to and an odour of alcohol was detected coming from his breath. As the officer was asking the driver for his documents the vehicle pulled away and started to accelerate. Sgt. Villeneuve tried to stop the vehicle after activating his emergency lights but the vehicle refused to stop. The vehicle evaded police and the apprehension was unsuccessful.

The officer investigated the matter with the information he had time to gather before the vehicle fled away. The driver was later located and arrested

James J. ARCHAMBEAULT, 24 years old of Ottawa will have to appear in L’Orignal court on November 20, 2013 to answer to the following charges:

CC 253(1) (a) Driving While Ability Impaired

CC 249.1(1) Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer

CC 249(1) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle

He was also issued provincial offence notice for the following infractions:

HTA 78.1 Drive motor vehicle on a highway while using a hand-held wireless communication device

HTA 33(3) Driver fail to give identification
