James ELWOOD – Race Motor Vehicle

(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On June 12, 2016 a member of the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 69 in The Township of the Archipelago. At approximately 14:35 p.m. a south bound vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed when it passed the subdued marked police vehicle. As a result the vehicle was stopped for “Stunt Driving”.

The driver, James ELWOOD, 55 years of age from Toronto, was arrested and charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA).

The driver was served a summons requiring him to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on July 17, 2016 to answer to the charges. His licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle he was operating has been impounded for seven days.

Every person convicted of Race a Motor Vehicle is liable to a fine of not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than six months, or to both, in addition to his or her driver’s licence being suspended.
