Injured Cyclist Rescued After Hiker Hears Calls For Help

(Prince Edward, ON) At noon on the 15th of November, a male cyclist riding the trails in the McCauley Mountain Conservation area fell off his bike and slid down a steep embankment where he lay hurt until a hiker heard his calls for help.

The hiker called 911 triggering police, fire and ambulance to respond to the scene. The injured cyclist was in a remote area making it difficult to locate him, but once found the difficult terrain further aggravated rescue efforts.

Several hours later the injured male was carried 40 metres up a steep slope using ropes, rescue baskets and a winch. The male was then carried out of the wooded area to Clarke Road to a waiting ambulance.

The 53 year old male from Belleville was transported to Picton hospital where he was treated for serious but non life threatening injuries.
