Infant Suffers Life Threatening Injuries – 18 Year Old Facing Aggravated Assault & Criminal Negligence Charges

(NAPANEE, ON) – On Monday, December 11, 2016 at approximately 3:40 a.m., officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Napanee detachment attended a residence on Centre Street in the City of Napanee in relation to a report of an injured infant.

The infant was transported to hospital in Ottawa and is being treated for life threatening injuries.

On Wednesday December 13, 2016, an 18-year old man from Napanee, Ontario was arrested and is charged under the Criminal Code for Aggravated Assault, Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm and Fail to Provide Necessaries of Life. The accused is held in custody and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice, Napanee on Thursday December 14, 2016.

The Napanee Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Jim Gorry of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) will be continuing with the investigation.

The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
