(PORT HOPE, ON) – On March 25, 2015 at 10:10pm Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the scene of a motor vehicle collision on County Road 65. Officers attended and observed a 2011 Mazda stuck in the ditch and the driver attempting drive it out. The driver had a strong odour of alcohol, slurred speech and was unable to walk without the assistance of police.
He was subsequently arrested and taken to the Cobourg detachment for further tests. The male made several threats to kill the arresting officer on the way to the detachment.
As a result of the investigation, Tristan COVERT age 49 of Port Hope is charged with Impaired Care&Control of a motor vehicle, Exceed .08mg and Utter Threats to cause death (to the officer). He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on April 29, 2015.
(HAMILTON TWP, ON) – On March 25, 2015 at 10:15pm Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a complaint of a westbound Black Mercedes on Highway 401 weaving between the lanes with inconsistent speeds ranging from 100-140 km/h. Officers located the car in the area of the Burnham St exit and observed the same erratic driving.
When the vehicle containing four occupants was stopped, officers noted open liquor containers and a quantity of oxycodone pills. The driver and front passenger were questioned outside of the car and attempted to mislead the officers about the identity of the driver who was on conditions not to associate with the passenger. Both the driver and front passenger were arrested and taken to the Cobourg detachment for further investigation. The driver, who had consumed alcohol, was given a breath test resulting in readings lower than the legal limit.
As a result of the investigation, both persons were held for a bail hearing and are charged with the following offences:
1) Jeffrey SAINTIL age 32 of Laval, Quebec
– Fail to Comply with Recognizance (two counts)
– Obstruct Peace Officer
– Possession of Schedule 1 Substance
– Driver motor vehicle, no licence
2) Jo-Annie COTE age 26 of Laval, Quebec
– Fail to Comply with Recognizance
– Obstruct Peace Officer
– Possession of Schedule 1 Substance
The other two occupants were allowed to continue on their way, no charges.
