(BRANT COUNTY, ON) – Members of the Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were contacted by a concerned motorist about a vehicle travelling on Highway 403 East, Brant County, Ontario.
On Saturday, August 22, 2015 at approximately 3:03 a.m., police were contacted by concerned motorist about a vehicle travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 403 east.
Officers immediately made their way to the area near the Johnson Road overpass where eastbound traffic was slowed. A vehicle was observed by the officer travelling at highway speeds coming towards oncoming traffic. The officer immediately positioned their cruiser in the path of the wrong way vehicle in order to avoid a collision with an innocent motorist. As the vehicle approached, the officer had to take evasive maneuvers in order to avoid a head on collision.
The officer was able to safely stop the wrong way motor vehicle at which time the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody without incident.
As a result of investigation, police arrested and charged 34-year-old Matthew P Williams of Hamilton, Ontario with impaired driving and driving over the legal limit.
He is to appear in Provincial Court, Brantford at a later date to answer to the charges.
“This was a very dangerous situation for both the public and our officers. Our officers responded quickly and were able to locate and safely stop the vehicle before a serious collision occurred. We would also like to thank the concerned citizen that immediately contacted police to report this incident.
