Impaired Driver Arrested After Collision – Two Sent To Hospital

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) – Officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded early Saturday morning, September 17, 2016 at approximately 12:30 am to a collision on Highway 7 near Emily Park Road.

A vehicle had been travelling eastbound when it was struck from behind by another eastbound vehicle. The first vehicle entered the ditch as a result of the collision. The driver and passenger were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was arrested at the scene and charged with the following offences:

Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)

Refuse to Provide Sample contrary to section 254(5) of the CCC

Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the CCC

Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Alcohol contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act

Possess More Than One Licence contrary to section 35(1)(e) of the Highway Traffic Act

The driver, Dane WELLMAN, 31 years of age of Omemee is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on October 20, 2016.
