Ian RENNIE – Hit and Run, Careless Driving

On Saturday September 20th, 2014 at approximately 4:12am Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received a report of a loud crash and possible motor vehicle collision in the area of Eden Line and Talbot Line in the Municipality of Bayham. Police attended the area to find EMS and Fire Services on scene as well as a large amount of debris and gravel on the roadway. There were no vehicles, however involved in the apparent collision, to be found.

Police investigation revealed that a driver of a local Taxi company had been traveling east of Eden Line, failed to stop for the stop sign at Talbot Line (Hwy #3), crossed over Talbot Line and then traveled into the ditch area causing damage to the roadway, embankment and severe damage to the taxi mini-van, rendering it in-operable. The driver then had the vehicle removed by a tow truck and left the scene prior to police and Emergency Services arrival. The driver then attended the hospital for minor injuries.

Police have charged Ian RENNIE, age 60 of the Municipality of Bayham with;

Failing to Remain at the Scene of a Collision under the Highway Traffic Act.
Failing to Report a Collision under the Highway Traffic Act.
Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

RENNIE has been summoned to appear in St. Thomas Provincial Court on October 10th, 2014.
