Hydro Collection Agency Fraud

(CLEARVIEW AND SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP & WASAGA BEACH, ON.) – On May 16th, 2015 members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call from a Clearview Twp. resident who has a business in the City of Barrie that this business was contacted by a person claiming to be from the “Hydro Collection Agency” and that the business owed funds and if they did not pay it immediately their hydro would be cut off immediately.

Similar frauds have been reported in the London, Oakview and Burlington area.

The Huronia West OPP reminds all businesses and their owners, this is a fraud. To cut off anyone’s hydro is a long legal process and the property owners or business owners will receive several notices to act upon before any action is taken. In addition in most cases this type of fraud can be quickly debunk by simply checking your accounts payable files.
