(HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON.) – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Haldimand County detachment was closed at Hwy #6 and Fifth Line, Haldimand County, ON today in the interests of public safety.
On Thursday October 17th, 2013 at approximately 3:00 p.m., between 30 and 40 First Nations persons entered onto Hwy #6 at Fifth Line thereby causing safety concerns which led police to the close the highway.
Members of the OPP Provincial Liaison Team (PLT) responded to the scene in an attempt to work towards a peaceful conclusion.
At approximately 7:30 p.m., Hwy #6 at Fifth Line was reopened to traffic.
Traffic was detoured around the road closure for approximately 4 1/2 hours.
An investigation is being conducted into this closure.
