Honour System Thief Arrested Thanks To Public Tips

Police would like to thank the public with their assistance in regards to the honour system thefts. Tips from the public lead to the swift arrest of Mathew BOLT on the 3rd of May 2016. BOLT was arrested without incident.

BOLT age 27 from Port Stanley, ON was charged with two counts of theft under $5,000. BOLT is scheduled to appear in St. Thomas Criminal Court on the 7th of June 2016

A thief in the Port Stanley area is taking advantage of the honour system and has stolen approximately $500 from a cash box at a bundled wood roadside sales site just north of Port Stanley on Sunset Rd, Central Elgin.

The thefts have been occurring since August of 2015 the most recent being April 6th, 2016. In total approximately $500 has been pilfered from the cash box, which is left at the site, for people to pay for the wood on the honour system.

After several thefts occurred the owner of the business set up a security camera and recently captured images of the thief in action. It appears the thefts typically occur between 3a.m and 4a.m.

Police are looking for the public’s assistance in identifying the male based on the security photos.
