Home Invasion

On Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at approximately 11:00 p.m., police were called to an address on Queens Avenue. A male broke into a residence where a physical altercation ensued between the suspect and the occupant, and objects within the home were used as weapons. The occupant fled the apartment and attended a home nearby, where 911 was called.

When members of the London Police Service arrived, they were advised that the suspect was still inside the unit, as well as a firearm, unrelated to the suspect.

The Emergency Response Unit attended and found that the suspect had barricaded himself within the apartment. Members of the Emergency Response Unit gained entry and the suspect was arrested at 3:52 p.m. Both the suspect and victim were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, sustained from their altercation. The occupant of the home was arrested in relation to a separate weapons investigation.

As a result of the break and enter investigation, 48-year-old Myron Ireland of no fixed address, has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada offences:
– Break and enter, contrary to section 348(1)(b);
– Two counts of assault with a weapon, contrary to section 267; and
– Resist arrest, contrary to section 129(a).

Both men have been released from hospital. Myron Ireland is scheduled to attend court today.

A warrant was executed at the residence of the 66-year-old occupant Peter Athanasakos of 2-647 Queens Avenue at which time a Remington 870 Pump Action Shot gun along with 28 rounds of ammunition were seized. Athanasakos has been charged with the following Criminal Code of Canada Offences:
– Careless Storage of a Firearm, contrary to section 86(1);
– Careless Storage of Ammunition, contrary to section 86(1).
