(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with a variety of calls over the holiday season (Dec 24, 5pm – Dec 28, 12noon).
December 24:
-A Hamilton Twp family contacted police to resolve a dispute over who would be hosting their Christmas dinner. One family member left without a resolution to their dilemma.
-A Port Hope man contacted police demanding that officers contact his grown up son and tell him not to attend his home for the Christmas season.
December 25:
-Police intervened in the life of a Brighton area man suffering from depression. Officers assisted him by ensuring the appropriate social services were involved to help him through his mental health crisis.
-OPP responded to reports of trees down across roadways in 3 locations in the County due to high winds.
-A Castleton area family contacted police to calm things down after one sibling spit at another sibling during a family get together. All parties agreed to be civil for the rest of the evening.
December 26:
-Police were called to a Port Hope home where a father and son were arguing. Presents were thrown outside. Officers were able to calm things down for the day.
-A fenced yard was broken into and one large bin was stolen from a Purdy Road (Colborne) business containing scrap metal worth $10,000.
-An officer was flagged down in Hastings about a resident butchering a cow outside of his house. Ministry officials were consulted and determined that no laws were being broken. The citizen was referred to the Municipal bylaw office for further advice.
December 27:
-An elderly man (86) wandered off into a wooded area near Shelter Valley Road just after 4:00am and became disoriented. He had a cell phone with him and called police. Officers located him a short time later near the roadway. Ambulance attended and the male received medical attention for his fatigue.
-Police were called regarding a distraught male in Hastings suffering a mental health crisis. Officers located him on an old railway bed unharmed. He was referred to a medical facility for help.
December 28:
-Officers on general patrol arrested two impaired drivers, one in the Port Hope area and one in the Cobourg area.
-Police attended a Colborne area home and removed an intoxicated female at a party. She was eventually escorted home by a sober friend.
-OPP responded to a 911 call from a cottage in the Bewdley area. Officers arrived and found several family members arguing. Police calmed things down and determined that alcohol consumption was the main cause of the disturbance. The Mississauga area family remained at the cottage agreeing to keep things civil.
-Officers were dispatched to a home in Hastings for a female arguing with her mother. Police quickly determined that she was having some mental health issues. Ambulance attended and she was provided access to mental health services.
Northumberland OPP conducted 18 RIDE programs. There were no impaired arrests as a result of these checks. Remember if you choose to drive; choose to be sober as these motorists did.
