Hit & Run Update – Child Remains In Critical Condition

On Friday, October 25, 2013 the London Police Service responded to a report of a child struck by a motor vehicle on Wexford Avenue in the city of London. The child remains in hospital in critical condition.

As a result of the investigation, the vehicle has been located and two people have been arrested.

A 34-year-old male, Toby Van Lieshout of Ingersoll, Ontario, has been charged with the following offences:
– Leaving the scene of an accident causing bodily harm, contrary to section 252(1.2) of the Criminal Code of Canada;
– Possession of a schedule II substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
– Driving while under suspension, contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act;
– Careless driving, contrary to section 130 of the Highway Traffic Act;
– Use plate not authorized for vehicle, contrary to section 12(1)(d) of the Highway Traffic Act;

The 39-year-old owner of the vehicle, Rebecca Van Lieshout of Ingersoll, Ontario, has been charged with the following offences:
– Accessory after the fact, contrary to section 23(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada;
– Assault Peace officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada;
– Possession of a schedule II substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
– Permit unlicensed person to drive motor vehicle, contrary to section 32(10) of the Highway Traffic Act;
– No insurance – owner permit driving, contrary to section 2(1)(b) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act;
