Hit and Run on the 401

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) – On Sunday August 25, 2013 at 12:50 p.m. members of the Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Chatham-Kent Fire Department and Chatham-Kent Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a two vehicle collision on the westbound lanes of HWY 401 at Mull Road.

Police have learned that a black Chevrolet Cavalier made contact with a white Ford pick-up truck, towing a camper trailer in the westbound lanes of HWY 401. The collision caused the Ford pick-up and trailer to leave the roadway and enter the ditch. As a result of the collision two occupants of the pick-up truck were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The black Chevrolet Cavalier was observed to have stopped momentary at the scene where a male driver and female passenger exited the vehicle. Moments later the occupants of the Chevrolet Cavalier fled the scene westbound on HWY 401.

Police closed one westbound lane of HWY 401 temporarily during the investigation but the HWY has since been re-opened.

Police have learned that the suspect Chevrolet Cavalier was observed just moments before the collision traveling westbound on HWY 401 in an erratic behaviour. The suspect vehicle is described as a black Chevrolet Cavalier with severe damage to the complete passenger side of the vehicle. It is believed that the suspect vehicle may also have either white or silver paint transfer as a result of the collision.

Police are seeking the public’s assistance to help in the identification of the suspect black Chevrolet Cavalier and the vehicles occupants.
