(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH – GODERICH, ON) – A 55-year-old from Saugeen Shores is facing charges including an Over 80 charge following a crash that took place on Bluewater Veteran’s Highway (Highway 21) near Zion Road this past weekend.
At 10:36 a.m. on August 5, 2017 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to observe for a Ford F-150 that that had just sideswiped into the complainant’s vehicle and failed to remain at the crash scene.
The suspect vehicle took off and continued southbound toward Goderich. The complainant continued to follow the suspect vehicle into Goderich until a Huron OPP officer intercepted and stopped the suspect vehicle.
Officers later learned the complainant’s vehicle was sideswiped by the Ford pickup as the suspect attempted to complete a pass.
While speaking with the driver of the pickup the investigating officer noted the driver had been consuming some alcohol. As a result a roadside screening test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest and was promptly transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. The driver subsequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxilizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit.
55-year-old Ronald MCCAN from Saugeen Shores has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Drive While Disqualified and Fail to Remain. He was later released from custody with an upcoming court appearance scheduled for August 21, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich. He also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle was towed.
