Hit And Run Charge For Vehicle Ditcher

(TOWNSHIP OF SOUTHGATE, ON) – Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) wish to remind motorists that driver’s must report a collision to police if they, or any of their passengers, are injured as a result of a motor vehicle collision and/or if the property damage is believed to be $2000 or more. Failing to report and/or failing to remain at the scene may result in charges.

This reminder comes after police received notification of a 2012 Ford Focus, with extensive damage, in the ditch on Southgate Sideroad 71 in the Township of Southgate on Sunday, November 9, 2015 at approximately 8:24 p.m.

Investigation revealed that the collision had occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. on November 9th after the lone driver of the Ford lost control of his vehicle while making a left turn onto Southgate Sideroad 71 from Southgate Road 26. The driver, who was injured, contacted a family member for assistance and left the scene without notifying police.

Charges of Failing to Report an Accident and Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) are pending against the 30 year old male driver from Guelph, Ontario.
