HIGHWAY 6 FROM HEPWORTH TO WIARTON OPEN – ALL OTHER ROADS ON THE BRUCE PENINSULA ARE STILL CLOSED AT THIS TIME

(BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) – As of 10:25 a.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2013, blowing and drifting snow are still causing problems for travelling on the Bruce Peninsula, therefore, Highway 6 from Wiarton north to Tobermory, and all county roads on the Bruce Peninsula remain closed until further notice.

Highway 6 from Hepworth to Wiarton is presently open at this time.

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is currently working on trying to clean up the drifted/snow covered roads to make it safe for travel.

The OPP are reminding motorists to stay off closed roads due to poor visibility, blowing and drifting snow, and to allow crews to safely clear and re-open roadways.

Please do not call the local OPP Detachment or the Provincial Communications Centre in London for road/weather conditions. Dispatchers are busy answering “calls for service”. Do not call 9-1-1 unless you have a legitimate emergency.

Call 5-1-1 for up-to-date road conditions on Provincial Highways or 1-866-266-5569 for roads maintained by Grey and Bruce Counties; or visit http:www.mto.gov.on.ca/English/traveller/trip/road_closures.shtml.

Bruce Peninsula OPP will update the media release once conditions have improved and the roads become safe for travelling.
