(Quinte West, ON) – Quinte West OPP responded to six motor vehicle collisions in the last 24 hour period. Four of the six collisions occurred on Dundas Street East in the City of Quinte West. At 1:30pm there was a two vehicle collision where one driver was charged with following too close. At approximately 3:00pm officers responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Dundas Street and Byron Street. The driver at fault was charged with start from stopped position not in safety. At 6:00pm a car struck a pedestrian at Dundas Street East and Flindall Street. The pedestrian was treated at Trenton Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Finally at 3:00am Police investigated a collision at the McDonalds restaurant on Dundas Street East. A U-Haul truck damaged the roof over the McDonald’s drive thru and fled the scene. This investigation is ongoing. Drivers are reminded to take extra precaution while travelling in this high collision area. In 2010 the Quinte Region Traffic Coalition (QRTC) provided large signs warning drivers about high-risk collision intersections along this area. The black and yellow signs warn motorists that they are approaching a dangerous intersection. The Quinte West OPP asks that drivers approaching these intersections slow down and obey the traffic controls and be prepared for the unexpected. Motorists can expect to see an increase in OPP enforcement in this area as the new school year approaches.
