Hero In Goderich Puts Out Burning Vehicle After Rollover Collision – Driver Survives

(GODERICH, ON) – A rollover crash that took place in Goderich on Sunday evening remains under police investigation. Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on November 27, 2016 Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Goderich Fire Department and Huron County Paramedic Services were dispatched to a single motor collision that took place on Victoria Street North just north of Nelson Street.

The preliminary investigation has determined the driver of a Dodge Caravan was travelling southbound on Victoria Street North at a high rate of speed when for unknown reasons his van crossed over into the northbound lane and left the roadway. The van subsequently collided with a large tree to the east of the roadway, and at that point the out of control van rolled and ultimately came to rest on its passenger side. The engine caught on fire however it was quickly put out by a witness that came to the aid of the injured driver.

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, 78-year-old Robert WHITEHEAD from Goderich is recovering in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
