(NORTH HURON, ON) – A 25-year-old from Blyth remains in custody following his arrest yesterday morning in the Town of Blyth. Shortly after 6:40 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a suspicious person call on Dinsley Street in Blyth. Officers were informed the male suspect had just entered into a homeowner’s garage when he was confronted by the homeowner. The startled male immediately took off running from the property. A little while later the suspect was observed by another citizen operating a child’s All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV). The witness watched as the suspect parked the Arctic Cat ATV in a driveway on Mill Street then he began walking up the street. Upon speaking with the owner of the ATV officer’s learned it had been stolen.
Minutes later officers were able to locate the suspect whereupon he was taken into custody for Possession of Stolen Property. While the male was in custody officers received additional reports of thefts and break and enters that had taken place earlier that morning in Blyth. Officers were able to connect the male to these offences and several pieces of stolen property were subsequently recovered. As a result of the police investigation, Brandon WEITZEL, 25 years of age from Blyth has been charged with the following offences:
Break, Enter a Dwelling House (3 counts)
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5,000 (7 counts)
Fail to Comply with Probation Order (6 counts)
He remains in custody with a bail hearing scheduled for November 24, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
