Heat Wave To Continue This Week

Heat Warning in effect for:

Goderich – Bluewater – Southern Huron County

Listowel – Milverton – Northern Perth County

Stratford – Mitchell – Southern Perth County

Wingham – Blyth – Northern Huron County

Humidex values reaching 40 are expected.

A brief cool down today then extreme heat event continues for most of this week.

A cold front is forecast to pass southern Ontario this afternoon ushering in a slightly cooler and less humid air mass. Daytime highs are forecast to reach high twenties with humidex values in high thirties today. Overnight low temperatures are forecast in the mid teens, providing some relief from the heat of the weekend.

The cool down will be short lived, as heat and humidity will return on Tuesday and persist through most of this week. Daytime highs again will be in the low thirties with humidex near forty. Overnight low temperatures are expected to be in the low twenties, except high teens in some rural areas, providing little or no relief from the heat.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
