Owen Sound, Ontario – Monday, July 11, 2016 – A heat wave is approaching the City of Owen
Sound and residents are reminded to be careful during such conditions.
Environment Canada has issued an alert with temperatures reaching low 30ºs until later in the
week. Humidex values will push temperatures upwards of 40ºC. Nighttime lows are expected to
remain in the low 20ºs.
Air conditioned city buildings provide respite from the heat, including City Hall, the Library, the
Bayshore Community Centre, the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, and the Julie McArthur Regional
Recreation Centre. Certain outdoor facilities also offer fun while staying cool, including the
Harrison Park Pool and the Kelso Beach Splash Pad.
Remember to be a good neighbor and visit the elderly to ensure they are cool and hydrated.
Never leave pets or children in a parked vehicle. Stay hydrated, wear light clothes, and always
wear sunscreen with an SPF-30 or higher.
