In the week of June 29th to July 6th 2015, Hawkesbury OPP officers responded to 284 occurrences. No break and enter incidents were reported. One incident of assault and eight incidents of theft were reported. In the last week, officers investigated one impaired driving related incident. Out of the 284 occurrences, 26 concluded with accusations.
IMPAIRED DRIVER
(Hawkesbury, ON) – In the evening of Monday June 29th, shortly after 9 pm, Hawkesbury OPP officers were dispatched to the Spence Avenue Mall parking lot in Hawkesbury to investigate a complaint of an impaired driver.
Two citizens had cornered a vehicle with their vehicles to prevent the driver from driving away.
The driver was seen driving around town in an erratic fashion by the concerned citizens. The female driver displayed heavy signs of impairment.
Interaction with the driver gave the officer reason to believe that she had driven her motor vehicle with her abilities impaired by alcohol.
Consequently, the driver, Tina LEGAULT (36 yrs) of Vankleek Hill, was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:
– 253(1)(a) Driving While Ability Impaired – motor vehicle (Alcohol and Drug)
– 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood.
– 249(1)(a) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle
She was later released and scheduled to appear at court in July 22nd, 2015 in L’Orignal.
ATV FLEEING POLICE BREAKS DOWN
(Alfred-Plantagenet, ON) On Thursday June 25th, at approximately 5:30 pm, Constable Jonathan Bouchard was performing radar on Concession road #3 in Alfred-Plantagenet when he spotted two speeding off road vehicles travelling westbound. The officer attempted to stop the 4 wheeler ATV which had 2 occupants and the dirt bike. They failed to stop for the police officer.
The officer initially pursued both vehicles who had turned onto County Road 19, but let them go for safety reasons in regards to their speed.
The ATV sustained physical damage to its motor and subsequently stopped on the side of the road. The officer who had disengaged but had continued driving down County Road 19 to ensure the safety of the surrounding motorists came across the stopped ATV.
The driver was arrested. The ATV was seized by the officer and was towed away.
The driver, Jacob CHARBONNEAU (21 yrs) of Rollin Road in Clarence-Rockland was charged with the following offences:

– Section 249.1(1) Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer
Off-Road Vehicles Act
– Section 2 – Unlawfully drive Off-Road Vehicle on Highway
– Section 22(1)(a) – ORV – Speeding – more than 20 km/hr where limit is 50 km/hr
– Section 24(4) – ORV- Fail to drive at right edge of shoulder
– Section 3(1) Drive off-road vehicle – no number plate
Highway Traffic Act
– Section 216 – Fail to stop for Police [PURSUIT]
– Section 33(1) – Driver fail to surrender licence
– Section 7(5)(a) – Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle
– Section 75(3) – Excessive Fumes
– Ontario Regulation 316 Section (4)(2) – Drive ATV with passenger on – Schedule B Highway
Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
– Section 3(1) – Fail to surrender insurance card
The owner of the ATV, Jordan CHARBONNEAU (21 yrs) also of Rollin Rd, Clarence-Rockland
was also charged under the Off-Road Vehicles Act with section 15(2) Permit off-road vehicle to be driven – no insurance
Both are scheduled to appear at the L’Orignal Court on August 6th 2015.
