THEFT OF SNOW PLOW

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – The Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating thefts of snow plow reported within the past two weeks. These incidents have occurred at private properties in our areas. The culprits are breaking off locks which allow easy access onto the properties.

Owners are advised to be particularly vigilant when leaving their equipment unattended to reduce the risk of being victimized. The use of hunting cameras installed in proximity could assist police in a theft investigation.

Crime prevention

The investigation revealed that some of the places victimized were at risk. The Hawkesbury OPP wishes to remind you that everyone has a role in crime prevention and in reducing the potentials of criminal acts.

Police need the help of everyone in order to fight crime efficiently. It is important to remember the Crime Triangle. Whenever a theft is committed there are always three components present:

A CRIMINAL, an OPPORTUNITY and a VICTIM.

The way to discourage a thief from victimizing your property is to take away the opportunities (or reducing them). This is where persons can protect themselves most.

Another means of protecting yourself is to have good communications with your neighbours.

If you see something suspicious …

Write down the description of any suspicious persons. Get the make, model, color, and license number of strange vehicles. Call the police and other members of your neighbourhood immediately.

Watch For:

Suspicious persons or activities.

Write down license plate numbers and descriptions.

Vehicles passing by numerous times, suspiciously parked or constantly traveling alleyways.

Protect Yourself By:

Good lighting

Good lock security

Let a trusted neighbour know when you are on vacation

MAKE THE EFFORT! BECOME ACQUAINTED WITH YOUR NEIGHBOURS
