Hawkesbury Police Press Releases

In the weeks of May 09th to May 23rd, Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to 304 occurrences. Two break and enter incidents were reported. Six assault incidents and fifteen incidents of theft were reported. In the last two weeks, officers investigated three impaired driving related incidents. Out of these 304 occurrences, 45 concluded with charges.

IMPAIRED DRIVERS

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – On Tuesday evening May 10th shortly before 9:00 pm, Hawkesbury OPP officers received a complaint about a motor vehicle travelling at an excessively high rate of speed and chasing a vehicle on Smerdon Street in Hawkesbury.

The driver of a grey 2015 Audi was intercepted by the officers when arriving at his residence in Hawkesbury.

Interaction with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had operated his motor vehicle with blood alcohol content over 80 mgs. The driver then failed to provide a suitable sample of his breath. Further investigation also revealed that he was in breach of his conditions.

Consequently, the driver, Gerald LANGLOIS (77 yrs) of Hawkesbury was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:

– 249(1)(a) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle

– 254(5) Fail or Refuse to Provide Sample -alcohol/blood

– 811 Breach of Recognizance

The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on June 08th, 2016 in L’Orignal.

(CHAMPLAIN, ON) – On Friday evening May 13th, shortly after 8:30 pm, Hawkesbury OPP Constable Dominique Sauve intercepted a grey 2008 Chevrolet Equinox on Highway 417 in the Champlain Township.

The Hawkesbury OPP officers were on lookout for the vehicle after receiving complaints from motorists of a possible impaired driver.

Interaction with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had his abilities to drive a motor vehicle impaired by drugs. The male driver displayed signs of impairment. Further investigation resulted in the driver being in possession of Cocaine.

Consequently, the driver, Stephen MAYBEE (43 yrs) of Verdun, Quebec, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:

– 253(1)(a) Driving While Ability Impaired – motor vehicle (Drug)

– 249(1)(a) Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle

He was also charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with the following section:

– 4(1) Possession of a Schedule I Substance- Cocaine

The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

Because of similar outstanding charges, he was not released and kept for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at court on June 08th, 2016 in L’Orignal.

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – On Friday May 20th shortly before midnight, Hawkesbury OPP officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. checkpoint on John Street at the Long Sault Bridge in Hawkesbury, when Constable Eddy Saardi intercepted a black 2008 Nissan Versa.

Interaction with the female driver gave the officer reason to believe that she had operated her motor vehicle with blood alcohol content over 80 mgs.

Consequently, the driver, Johanne AUDET (48 yrs) of Alfred, was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following section:

– 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

She was later released and scheduled to appear at court on June 08th, 2016 in L’Orignal.
