Hawkesbury Police Press Releases

In the weeks of May 23rd to June 06th, Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to 270 occurrences. Four break and enter incidents were reported. Eight assault incidents and 10 incidents of theft were reported. During those two weeks, officers investigated five impaired driving related incidents. Out of these 270 occurrences, 45 concluded with charges.

IMPAIRED DRIVERS

(ALFRED-PLANTAGENET, ON) – On Saturday evening May 28th, shortly after 10:00 pm, Hawkesbury OPP officer John Leger was dispatched to the scene of a single motor vehicle collision on County Road 17, slightly west of County Road 9 in Plantagenet.

The vehicle, a 2009 blue Hyundai Accent, was seen crossing over the oncoming lane and back across both lanes again before leaving the roadway and rolling-over into the ditch, ending its path back on its four wheels. Although the vehicle was severely damaged, the driver was still trying to back his vehicle out of the ditch. The driver, lone occupant, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Interaction with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had driven his motor vehicle with his abilities impaired by alcohol.

Consequently, the driver, Yann SAUVE (31 yrs) of Ile-Perrot, Quebec, was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:

– 253(1)(a) Driving While Ability Impaired – motor vehicle (Alcohol)

– 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood.

The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on June 15th, 2016 in L’Orignal.

(EAST HAWKESBURY, ON) – On May 29th, slightly before 1:30 am, the Hawkesbury OPP Detachment responded to a single motorcycle collision on County Road 14, just north of Concession Road 3 in East Hawkesbury Township.

Investigation revealed that the black-orange 1975 Harley Davidson hit the gravel shoulder and skid for several meters before ending up in the ditch. The driver had walked away from the scene of the collision.

Constable Erin Bouchard attended the scene and located the driver on Concession Road 3, walking away from the collision site. The driver sustained very minor injuries.

Interaction with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had driven his motorcycle with his abilities impaired by alcohol.

Consequently, the driver, Jean-Francois SAUVE (51 yrs) of East Hawkesbury, was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:

– 253(1)(a) Driving While Ability Impaired – motor vehicle (Alcohol)

– 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood.

The motorcycle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on June 15th, 2016 in L’Orignal.

R.I.D.E. LEADS TO OVER 80 AND DRUG CHARGES

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – On May 30th, shortly after 12:30 am, Hawkesbury OPP officers Simon Boudreau and Marc Lauzon were conducting a R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) initiative on John Street in Hawkesbury, when a brown 2004 Pontiac Sunfire stopped at the checkpoint.

Interaction with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had operated his motor vehicle with blood alcohol content over 80 mgs.

Consequently, the driver, James Edward SHARP (25 yrs) of Erinsville Ontario, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following section:

– 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

The traffic stop resulted in one of the male passengers being in possession of Cannabis Marihuana with an estimated street value of $2580.

Consequently, the passenger, Ghislain ROCHON (49 yrs) of Kitchener Ontario, was arrested and charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with the following section:

– 4(1) Possession of a Schedule II substance-Cannabis Marihuana – over 30 grams

They were both later released and scheduled to appear at court on June 22nd, 2016 in L’Orignal.

(NATION, ON) – On Wednesday morning June 01st, at approximately 8:15 am, Hawkesbury OPP officer Ken Gray responded to a motor vehicle collision on County Road 8 in the Nation Municipality.

The investigation revealed that a motor vehicle had stopped behind a school bus taking students on board on County Road 8 in Nation when a third vehicle, a grey Volkswagen Passat coming from behind, failed to stop safely and struck the rear of the vehicle.

Interaction with the female driver gave the officer reason to believe that she had operated her motor vehicle with blood alcohol content over 80 mgs.

Consequently, the driver, Kelly SHAW (37 yrs) of Clarence-Rockland, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:

– 253(1)(a) Driving While Ability Impaired- motor vehicle (Alcohol)

– 253(1)(b) Care or Control Over 80 mgs.

She was also charged under the Liquor Licence Act with the following section:

– 32(1) Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

Lastly, she was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with the following section:

– 130 Careless Driving

The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

She was later released and scheduled to appear at court on June 29th, 2016 in L’Orignal.

(EAST HAWKESBURY, ON) – On June 05th, shortly before 11:00 pm, the Hawkesbury OPP Detachment responded to a single motor vehicle collision on County Road 18 in the East Hawkesbury Township.

The driver had lost control of his 2008 grey Chevrolet Aveo, ending up on its roof in the ditch. The driver had walked away from the scene of the collision.

Constable Raoul Doucet attended the scene and located the driver further down the road. The driver sustained minor injuries.

Interaction with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had driven his motor vehicle with his abilities impaired by alcohol.

Consequently, the driver, Jamie DEROUCHIE (30 yrs) of East Hawkesbury, was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following sections:

– 253(1)(a) Driving While Ability Impaired – motor vehicle (Alcohol)

– 253(1)(b) Care or Control Over 80 mgs.

The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.

He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on June 29th, 2016 in L’Orignal.
