(HALIBURTON, ON) – The Haliburton Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 136 calls for service over the past week.
These investigations included seven (7) alarms, nine (9) animal complaints, five (5) domestic disputes, two (2) neighbour disputes, one (1) threats, four (4) noise complaints, two (2) mental health act, trouble with youth, five (5) family disputes, twelve (12) non-emergency 911 calls, seventeen (17) police assistance/information calls, two (2) break and enters, five (5) thefts/mischief’s, nineteen (19) traffic complaints, three (3) traffic hazards, and other police related calls for service.
Eight (8) criminal charges were laid as a result of the one (1) domestic and one (1) threats investigation.
Officers also responded to eighteen (18) motor vehicle collisions (MVC). One (1) involved in striking a deer.
Officers conducted six (6) RIDE programs in the area.
IMPAIRED DRIVERS
On July 28, 2017 shortly after 10:00 p.m., officers from the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on County Road 21 in the Township of Minden Hills.
OPP officers attended the area and located a vehicle in the ditch and during their investigation it was determined that the male driver was impaired by alcohol.
Ronald KOVACHIK, 52 years old, of Cambridge has been charged with:
· Driving with More than 80 mgs of alcohol in his blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
· Driving while ability impaired by alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(a) CC
· Fail to surrender insurance card contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA)
The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on October 4, 2017.
On July 29, 2017 shortly before 8:30 p.m., officers from the Haliburton Highlands detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a vehicle possibly being driven by an impaired driver.
The vehicle was located and stopped on Highway 35 near Info Center Road in the Township of Minden Hills.
During the course of the investigation it appeared that the driver’s ability to operate a
motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.
Wolfgang WEBER, 52 years old, of Minden Hills has been charged with:
· Driving while ability Impaired by Alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
· Refuse to Provide Sample contrary to section 254(3) CC
The accused will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on September 6, 2017.
Both males also received an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and their vehicles have been impounded for seven days.
