Scrap metal thefts – arrests
On November 15, 2015 at 8:52 p.m., the Guelph Police observed a red pick-up truck attend to a business on Woodlawn Road. Two males exited the vehicle and removed Rotors and Drums from the scrap bin. They left the property and attended to another business on Lewis Road and again removed Rotors and Drums from a scrap bin. A traffic stop was conducted and a quantity of scrap metal was located in the vehicle. The two male occupants were both arrested. A search subsequent to arrest discovered a small quantity of Marihuana. Further investigation led to five previous scrap metal thefts that have occurred in Guelph.
James Oldershaw, 21 years of Brantford has been charged with seven counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on December 18, 2015.

Cyclist/vehicle collision
On November 14, 2015 at 10:50 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Norwich Street at Cardigan Street to investigate the report of a collision between a cyclist and a vehicle. The cyclist is believed to be either uninjured or with minor injuries however he left the scene prior to police arrival. He was operating a red bicycle and is described as being white, in his twenties with blonde hair, buzz cut hair, short beard and wearing blue jeans.

Two vehicle collision
On November 13, 2015 at 7:05 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Victoria Road at Woodlawn Road for a two vehicle collision. It is alleged that a GMC Sierra Pickup truck driven by a 59-year-old male was north bound Victoria Road when he failed to stop for a red traffic light causing a collision with a westbound Honda CRV driven by a 64-year-old male driving through the intersection on Woodlawn Road. The impact of the collision caused major damage to both motor vehicles and minor injuries were sustained to the Honda driver. The driver of the pickup truck has been charged with red light – fail to stop under the Highway Traffic Act.
Single vehicle collision – arrest
On November 14, 2015 at 1:05 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Clair Road West for the report of a single motor vehicle that had left the roadway and ended up in the ditch. Upon arrival, police spoke with the male driver and it was determined that the he had been consuming alcohol and he was arrested.
There were no injuries to the driver or the 17-year-old female passenger and minimal damage was caused to the motor vehicle.
Bruce Gray, 56 years of Puslinch has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mgs. He will appear in court on December 1, 2015.
Purse theft – arrests
On November 14, 2015, at 3:52 p.m., the Guelph Police responded to a theft call that occurred at the Guelph Public Library, located at 100 Norfolk Street. The complainant, a staff worker, reported her purse and contents stolen while at the library.
A short time later, police received a report of several suspicious males gathered in the area of 87 Neeve Street. Police located identification belonging to the victim of the purse theft on a male that was located and he was arrested. It was further determined this male had entered units in 87 Neeve Street. Continued investigation led to another location and a second male who was in possession of the cell phone belonging to the victim and he was arrested. Both males had a small quantity of Crystal Meth on them that was discovered in searches subsequent to their arrests.
Randall NEARY, 24 years of Guelph has been charged with break and enter, unlawfully in a dwelling, theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on November 16, 2015.
John HARTUNG, 31 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of stolen property, two counts of breach of probation and possession of a controlled substance. He will appear in court on November 24, 2015.
Break in – arrest
On November 15, 2015 at 10:00 p.m., the Guelph Police received a call that two males had been inside the garage of a Sherwood Drive residence. The homeowner saw them when he arrived home. Police were able to locate one of the males on Orchard Drive and he was arrested. A GMC Sierra pickup truck was also discovered in the driveway at the Sherwood Drive residence. The truck had been reported stolen on November 8, 2015 out of Perth County. The keys for this vehicle were discovered on the arrested male. A canine search of the area located a duffel bag nearby containing break in tools.
A 26-year-old male from Stratford has been charged with break, enter and commit, possession of break in tools, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on November 16, 2015.
Impaired driver arrested
On November 14, 2015 at 1:55 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Waterloo Avenue after receiving the report of suspicious activity surrounding a car in the area. Police located the vehicle and the driver and he was subsequently arrested.
Alistair Lauder, 35 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mgs. He will appear in court on December 1, 2015.
Theft from cars
Over the weekend the Guelph Police received three reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Winston Crescent, London Road West and Cole Road.
This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
