Major damage in B+E – arrest
On January 16, 2016 at 12:05 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a business on Woodlawn Road West for a break and enter. The owner attended the business after being contacted by the alarm company and discovered the break in. There was damage to two external doors to the business and extensive damage was caused to equipment inside. A male was located in the building, passed out, and was arrested. Damage is estimated at over $125,000. Subsequent to the males arrest police discovered a folding knife on him and it was found to be a prohibited weapon.
Nicholas Empringham, 19 years of Fergus has been charged with break and enter and commit and indictable offence, mischief over $5,000 and possession of a prohibited weapon. He will appear in court on March 1, 2016.
Impaired driver reported- arrest
On January 16, 2016 at 10:27 pm., the Guelph Police received the report of a possible impaired driver in a parking lot on Kortright Road West. Police located the parked vehicle that was still running, and found the male driver asleep in the driver’s seat. The driver was spoken too, found to be impaired and he was arrested.
Nicholas Shaver, 26 years of Elora has been charged with impaired care and control and over 80 mg care and control. He will appear in court on February 5, 2016.
Suspicious person call – arrest
On January 16, 2016 at 5:45 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Silvercreek Parkway North for the report of a male knocking on doors and asking for alcohol. Police located the man, determined he had been drinking alcohol and he was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place. Further investigation discovered that he was breaching court imposed conditions.
Timothy Williams, 27 years of Guelph has been charged with breach of probation and breach of OIC undertaking. He was also charged under the Liquor Licence Act with being intoxicated in a public place. He will appear in court on January 29, 2016.
Hit and run – arrest
On January 17, 2016 at 6:44 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a hit and run collision at Eramosa Road and Delhi Street. It is alleged that a northbound motor vehicle on Eramosa Road failed to yield the right of way to a southbound motor vehicle, turning left into its path at Delhi Street. A collision occurred between the vehicles and one of the involved parties drove away on Delhi Street. Police located the responsible vehicle in a parking lot on Emma Street. Further investigation led to the identification and arrest of the responsible driver a short time later. No injuries were reported and damages are estimated at $15,000
Donald Albert, 56 years of Kanata has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and with turn – not in safety under the Highway Traffic Act. He will appear in court on February 23, 2016.
Single vehicle into pole reported- arrest
On January 17, 2016 at 3:02 a.m., the Guelph Police received a call reporting a single vehicle collision into a pole on Wellington Street just west of Gordon Street. Police located the male driver and the vehicle at the reported location. After speaking with the driver it was determined that he was impaired and he was arrested.
Brenden Trainor, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired care and control and over 80 mg care and control. He will appear in court on February 5, 2016.
Impaired driver – arrest
On January 17, 2016 at 12:05 a.m., University of Guelph Police observed a possible impaired driver on Gordon Street and a traffic stop was conducted. A Guelph Police cruiser in the area observed the stop and assisted. The male driver was determined to be impaired and he was arrested.
Felipe Santa, 19 years of Oakville has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving while under suspension and novice driver – B.A.C. above zero. He will appear in court on February 5, 2016.
Theft from cars
Over the weekend the Guelph Police received fourteen reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Stephen Drive, Speedvale Avenue West, Edinburgh Road South, Elizabeth Street, Oliver Street, Glasgow Street, Suffolk Street West, Neeve Street, Pinnacle Crescent, Bailey Avenue and four on London Road West.
This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
