Guelph Police Daily News Release – November 13, 2015

Three car collision

On November 12, 2015 at 5:45 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Wellington Street for a reported collision. It is alleged that a 2008 Dodge Nitro operated by a 21-year-old Ancaster woman was exiting the parking lot of the Plaza on Wellington Street, east of Gordon Street. As that motor vehicle started to make its’ left turn to Wellington, it was involved in a collision with an 2001 Honda Civic operated by a 20-year-old Acton woman that was eastbound. That impact caused the Honda to strike a 2006 Toyota Camry operated by a 67-year-old Guelph woman that was stopped in the westbound left turn lane of Wellington Street east of Gordon Street.

The driver of the Toyota suffered a minor injury that did not require treatment at the time of the investigation.

The three involved motor vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene.

The driver of the Dodge has been charged with fail To yield from driveway under the Highway Traffic Act.

Pedestrian struck

On November 12, 2015 at 6:52 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Edinburgh Road for the report of a pedestrian struck. It is alleged that a 2009 Toyota Rav4 operated by a 53-year-old Guelph male was northbound on Edinburgh Road from Wellington Street West. As that motor vehicle approached Bristol Street, a 54-year-old male pedestrian (dressed in dark clothing) stepped off of the east curb into the path of the northbound Toyota. The driver was unable to stop his motor vehicle before it struck the pedestrian. Citizens administered immediate first aid until arrival of emergency services personnel. The pedestrian was transported to Guelph General Hospital where he was admitted overnight for treatment of possible broken ribs and a hip injury.

The involved motor vehicle sustained damage to the hood and windshield.

The investigation is continuing and no charges have been laid at this time.

Two car collision

On November 12, 2015 at 9:55 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Edinburgh Road for a reported collision. It is alleged that a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta operated by a 21-year-old Stirling Ontario male, was northbound on Edinburgh Road South from Stone Road. As that motor vehicle approached the intersection at Chancellors Way, it was involved in a collision with a 2011 GMC Terrain operated by a 69-year-old Sault Saint Marie male that was turning left from Chancellors Way onto Edinburgh. The force of the collision caused the Volkswagen to leave the roadway and come to rest on the west side boulevard.

Both motor vehicles were demolished in the collision. All five occupants of the Volkswagen Jetta suffered minor injuries with only the driver being transported to hospital suffering from an injury to one arm and one leg. Both occupants of the GMC Terrain suffered minor injuries but did not require treatment at the scene.

The driver of the GMC Terrain has been charged with fail to yield to traffic on a through highway under the Highway Traffic Act.

Break and enter

On November 12, 2015, the Guelph Police went to an Eramosa Road residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) broke into the backyard shed sometime overnight and stole a bicycle.

Theft from cars

On November 12, 2015 the Guelph Police received two reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Cole Road and Dawson Road.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Break and enter – updated

On October 24, 2015 at 8:41 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Woolwich Street car dealership to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) smashed a window to gain entry to the business stealing a car. Police then received a call at 8:51 a.m., that a vehicle had struck a pole on Victoria Road and Grange Street. The male driver was seen leaving the scene. The car involved was the stolen car from the break in. A canine track was conducted but the male was not located.

On October 28, 2015 the Guelph Police investigation led to an arrest.

Benjamin Almas, 40 years of Guelph has been charged with break and enter, theft of motor vehicle and breach of probation. He was also charged with fail to remain under the Highway Traffic Act. He will appear in court on November 17, 2015.
