On August 11, 2015, the Guelph Police executed a Criminal Code search warrant at the Super 8 Hotel and Tandy Self Storage both located on Silvercreek Parkway North. Police located five bicycles believed to be stolen, bike parts, tools, identity documents and a small quantity of drugs.
A 51-year-old Guelph male has been charged with theft under $5,000, six counts of possession of stolen property, five counts of possession of identity documents and three counts of possession of a controlled substance. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on August 12, 2015. The investigation is ongoing.

Police cruiser involved in collision
On August 11, 2015 at 12:45 p.m., the Guelph Police Service went to a two vehicle collision at the exit of Walmart on Woodlawn Road West. One of the drivers involved in the collision was an on duty Guelph Police Officer who was operating a marked uniform cruiser. Both vehicles sustained minor damage as a result of the collision and no injuries were reported. The Officer, a 15 year veteran, has been summoned to appear in court to answer to a charge of fail to yield from a private driveway.
Police officer assaulted
On August 12, 2015 at 2:15 a.m., a Guelph Police officer was flagged down by several people while driving on MacDonnell Street as they were concerned a male may drive while impaired. As the officer stopped and exited her vehicle, the male in question ran at her and grabbed her by her vest. A struggle ensued and the male was arrested.
A 41-year-old Guelph male has been charged with assault police. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on August 12, 2015.
Drive over 80 mg – arrest
On August 11, 2015 at 7:40 p.m., the Guelph Police received the description of a vehicle that may be driven by an impaired driver. At 8:11 p.m., police located the vehicle being driven on Norfolk Street and conducted a traffic stop. Police spoke with the male driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested.
Melvin Thorne, 70 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on August 21, 2015.
Theft from cars
On August 11, 2015 the Guelph Police received two reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Flaherty Drive and Argyle Drive.
