Guelph Police Daily News Release – 21Oct2016

Pedestrian struck

On October 20, 2016 at 3:41 p.m., the Guelph Police responded to a collision at Victoria Road North and Cassino Avenue where a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. It is alleged that the 16-year-old male pedestrian was lawfully crossing the road when struck by the vehicle. He received minor injuries. Consequently, the driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old female from Guelph, was issued a summons to appear in court for the offence of fail to yield to pedestrian contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Assault – arrest

On October 20, 2016 at 4:08 p.m., the Guelph Police went to an area group home for an assault complaint. It is alleged that a male youth at the home became upset with a female staff member and began punching her. Another staff member intervened, police were called and the male was arrested. The female sustained minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

A 14-year-old Guelph male has been charged with assault, breach of probation and breach of undertaking. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on October 21, 2016.

Break and enter

On October 20, 2016 at 4:03 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Gosling Gardens residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) smashed the rear patio door window to gain entry sometime during the day.

Break and enter

On October 20, 2016 at 5:28 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Stevenson Street South residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the detached garage through the unlocked man door sometime during the day. A theft of empty beer bottles is reported.

Shoplifter arrested

On October 20, 2016 at 1:49 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a store on Stone Road for the report of a shoplifting incident. It is alleged that a male and female had been seen selecting grocery items and concealing some of them into a freezer bag on their cart. As they approached the cash, the male grabbed the freezer bag and left the store without paying. The female paid for the items left in the cart. Both then met outside and left in a taxi. Police located the taxi downtown with both passengers. The freezer bag and its contents was found and the male was arrested.

The 46-year-old Guelph man has been charged with theft under $5,000 and breach of undertaking. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on October 21, 2016.

Theft from cars

On October 20, 2016 the Guelph Police received three reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Silvercreek Parkway North, Eramosa Road and Cardigan Street.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
