In March 2017 members of the Guelph Police Service High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) began an investigation into suspected drug trafficking in the east end of Guelph. As a result of that investigation, the HEAT unit and the Tactics and Rescue Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Huron Street on the evening of Friday March 10, 2017. As a result of that warrant, four women and four men were subsequently located inside the residence and arrested. During that search police located a quantity of marihuana, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia. The total approximate value of all drugs seized is $5000. Police also located two canisters of pepper spray which were seized.
Two of the persons located inside the residence had outstanding warrants and a number of criminal charges were also laid against all of the parties involved in respect to drug and breaches of court orders. The age of the people range from 18 to 53 years and they are to appear in court on March 14, 2017.
The following day a ninth person, who was identified as the tenant of home, was located and charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking. Garry Fletcher 53 years of age was released to appear before the court on March 14, 2017.
Female assaults police outside of bar
On Sunday, the 12th of March 2017 at approximately 1:42am patrol officers observed a disturbance outside a Macdonell bar when staff there were ejecting three people. When police tried to speak with the people, they were uncooperative and began screaming obscenities towards the staff and police. One of the male had to be restrained as he attempted to get back inside the bar and one of his female companions assaulted police as they were trying to deal with the male.
Shaylee Tait 18 years of age from Guelph was arrested for assaulting police and later released to appear before court on April 28, 2017.
Man assaulted on Mac Avenue– public assistance requested
On Sunday March 5th, 2017 at approximately 9:30pm, police were dispatched to the area of Mac Avenue and Dufferin Street in the city of Guelph for a report of an assault. A male was walking his dog in the area when the subject male approached the victim and attacked him by jumping on top of him and punching and kicking him numerous times. The suspect is described as: a white male , six feet tall with a heavy build, in his 30’s, who has a goatee and a moustache and was wearing a jacket with reflective stripes on it.

Running car stolen from driveway
On the morning of March 12th at approximately 5:50am, a Janefield Avenue resident left his blue, four door, 2007 Nissan Versa running in the driveway as he went back inside the house. He came out a few minutes later and the vehicle had been taken. The vehicle is also described as having an Uber sticker and a parking sticker in the front windshield.

Impaired driving
At approximately 5pm on March 11th, police were alerted by a concerned citizen to a 2006 Dodge Magnum on Commercial Street that was stopped and running with a man asleep behind the wheel. Police investigated and the male driver was arrested for impaired care and control of a motor vehicle. Additional testing at the station resulted in a further charge of care and control of a motor vehicle- over .08mgs.
Edward Tribe, 29 years of age from Guelph was released to appear before the court at a later date.
– In the early morning hours of March 12th, a patrol officer observed a 2001 Toyota Camry proceed through a red light at the corner of Waterloo Avenue and Gordon Street. The vehicle was stopped and investigation led to the arrest of the male driver for impaired driving. Additional testing at the station resulted in a further charge of operate a motor vehicle- over .08mgs.
Kyle Doucet, 31 years of age from Brampton was released to appear before the court in Guelph at a later date.
Vehicle collisions
On Saturday night at just before midnight two cars were heavily damaged when they collided near the corner of the Gordon Street and Forbes Avenue. Both drivers received minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Police investigated 10 vehicle collisions over the weekend where driving charges were laid in seven of the collisions. Minor injuries were reported in three of the collisions.
Calls for service
Over the weekend, the Guelph Police Service responded to 554 calls for service.
