Remember that Fall brings more wildlife onto our roadways. The peak time for this is October to January with November considered the most dangerous month.
There are a few things that you can do to reduce your risk of collision:
drive cautiously from dusk until dawn particularly on rural roads
drive to the speed limits
scan the roadside for the reflections from the deer eyes
if one crosses your path anticipate more – they are herd animals
if one is in front of you try to brake hard
steering to avoid collision may result in a larger accident if you leave the road and hit a tree
If you do hit a deer, or a deer hits you call the police for help and to report the accident. If the animal is injured stay away from it as it may injure you.
Police incidents over the last 24 hours
The Guelph Police were involved in 190 incidents in this time frame. Incidents involve everything from traffic stops and accidental 911 calls to domestics and break and enters.
